First 5 Sacramento actively focuses on funding several programs that benefit Sacramento County children prenatal to age five and their families. We strive to give parents and caregivers the tools necessary to ensure their children reach their greatest potential.



Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding promotes the best possible health as well as positive developmental and psychosocial outcomes for infants. Visit this section to learn what First 5 Sacramento is doing about increasing awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding.

Nutrition

Currently, one in five school-age children is overweight and the number is rising. Obese/overweight children become sick more often, perform more poorly in school, are at a heightened risk for a number of diseases and conditions, and are increasingly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and increased blood cholesterol.
